laser hair removal
What is laser hair removal?
Laser Hair Removal (LHR) works by directing concentrated light to target the hair follicle at the root. The laser inhibits the hair’s ability to grow without disrupting or damaging the skin’s surface, so even the most sensitive skin can be treated.
Designed with sensitive skin in mind, our LHR technology is safe enough to be used on any part of the body and target different skin types whilst ensuring maximum results. Our laser machine features a unique dynamic cooling device that helps to calm, soothe and protect the skin.
how many sessions of laser hair removal should i have?
For your initial course of Laser Hair Removal treatment, we recommend approximately 6-12 treatments, spaced a minimum of 4 weeks apart (depending on area and skin tone). Everyone is slightly different so book a complimentary consultation with us and we can advise on the best package for your hair growth, skin type and skin conditions.
For those with PCOS/hormonal imbalance, we would tailor a package better suited to your needs. We understand everyone has individual needs and therefore the face to face consultation would be ideal to work out a treatment plan specific to you. Contact us for more information.
how long do the treatments take?
Treatments times vary depending on the amount of areas to be covered. With our latest technology, treatments are completed super fast whilst remaining super effective. Having 2 handles with different spot sizes allows multiple hair follicles to be targeted at the same time and ensures all areas are covered accordingly and are not compromised in any way. With the added bonus of a larger spot size handle, we’re able to offer shorter and more convenient treatment times than our competitors.
what areas can be covered by the laser?
You can undergo LHR for nearly any part of your face and body to finally get rid of that unwanted hair. The price depends on where on the face and body you’d like to be hairless. Full Body Laser Hair Removal includes everything on the body that can be lasered, except for fine baby hairs.
what can i expect from the treatment?
Before you under-go laser hair removal with us, we ask if you could shave the area 8-12 hours before. During the treatment, we apply a cool gel to the skin so that the laser device glides over the target area easily, several times. You may feel a warm sensation, but the heat is bearable and not painful.
are there any side effects?
Our laser machine meets the highest of safety standards and we are highly experienced in providing the best treatment, for the best results.
You will not experience any side effects, other than possible temporary marks on the skin/redness/sensitivity which shouldn’t last long – This will all be explained during your free consultation.
who cannot have laser hair removal?
Laser may not be suitable for everyone and there are certain medical conditions that may prevent you from having the treatment. This can include:
- Pregnancy – It’s advisable that you wait until after you’ve had your child before considering the procedure. It is recommended that you wait 3 months post birth depending on your birthing experience and if you are still breatfeeding.
- Breastfeeding – Laser hair removal should generally be avoided while breastfeeding. Your hormones will likely cause changes to hair growth, meaning the procedure might not be as effective as you would have liked.
- Medical conditions such as: Psoriasis, Bleeding disorders, Severe reactions to histamines, Previous surgery such as chemical peels and laser resurfacing and Vitiligo.
- Medication – Many medications come with side-effects, including those that will make your skin more photosensitive. This means that your skin might react more negatively to change – such as laser hair removal.
If this is the case, you might want to think of ways to get around the issue. For example, taking a break from the problematic medication may be an option or switching to an alternative treatment. Having a discussion with your GP will help determine the right course of action for your needs.
-
Sun tan – The sun will cause your skin to create more melanin, which is there to protect your skin from damage. However, this can cause your skin colour to become patchy and uneven, which isn’t the best start for laser hair removal.
- Keloid Scarring – This occurs when wounds do not heal properly, and they can be especially hazardous to anyone seeking laser hair removal. The skin is usually raised, which can make it vulnerable during the procedure.
- Tattoos – Areas of the skin where there is a tattoo should be avoided during laser hair removal. This is to minimise skin irritation, as well as any potential aesthetic changes to your tattoos.
- Lesions/Open wounds – Laser hair removal can be especially painful in areas of the body where there are lesions or open wounds. It’s therefore a good idea to postpone the procedure until they’ve fully healed.
- Recent waxing/Plucking – Any laser hair removal treatment requires there to be a follicle to target. If you’ve recently plucked or waxed your body, there won’t be any. It’s usually recommended that you wait two weeks before attempting laser hair removal. Alternatives like shaving or depilatory creams are great to bridge that gap between hair and laser results!
- Epilepsy – Light induced epilepsy sufferers are usually advised against laser hair removal, unless they have a note authorising the procedure from their GP. If you do decide to go ahead, you should be provided with eye protection that blocks out the light to minimise the likelihood of a seizure.
- Hirsutism – This is a genetic condition that sees women experiencing excessive hair growth. The hairs are generally thick and dark, making them easy to see.
Laser hair removal can be an effective way of getting rid of these unwanted hairs. It is worth bearing in mind that the procedure can take longer for hirsutism sufferers – potentially several months – and it is generally most effective on women with pale skin and dark hair.
what are the benefits of laser hair removal?
Aside from the potential of being hair-free and care-free in your busy life, the results of laser hair removal are noticeable from your first session and by the end of the course can be even more effective.
You are free to return to daily activities immediately. We just request you cover the area with a high SPF and avoid strong UV rays after.
The sessions are really time-effective too. You only need to attend at least once every 4 weeks (different for PCOS sufferers) and treatment time is a lot faster than most other forms of hair removal such as waxing and electrolysis.
This non-invasive process is incredibly safe with very, very few risks – you have more to gain than to lose! Contact us now to start your LHR journey
