CONSULTATION
Every client journey begins with a consultation.
This is an exciting moment for you to outline your concerns and expectations in an expert-led conversation. At your face to face consultation you can sit with your laser therapist, who will guide you through every step of the way on your journey to smooth hair-free skin – and offer you sound advice and information, whilst matching you to a relevant treatment package that will make an impact and help achieve your desired results.
Our treatment plans are market-leading, and include personalised pre and post treatment advice that will help elevate the effects of your upcoming treatment and keep the results lasting for longer. For Laser Hair Removal, in your face to face consultation you can expect a short skin examination and patch test, where we will ensure your skin has no adverse reactions under the laser.
We are passionate about giving you choices, to help you find the perfect treatment for you and your skin’s needs. All skin is different, which is why no treatment is the same at Laser Away, and we tailor each one to be perfect for your unique skin type. Our consultations usually last between 30-45 minutes which gives us plenty of time to get to know you thoroughly, outline the possible treatment paths we can take, and answer any questions you may have.
We usually start the consultation by going through your completed online consultation form and confirming some regulatory questions about your medical history and lifestyle, and you will then be asked to sign the consent form.
During this time, we will take an initial look at your areas of concern and perform a small patch test on the area to be treated.
For a consultation on Laser Hair Removal , we need to assess your hair type, the way it grows and it’s thickness for us to determine the best treatment programme for you. For this to be possible, we do require some hair growth in the area you wish to be treated to be present so please do not shave, wax or use any other form of hair removal before your consultation. We will then take a photograph of the area (with your consent) and perform a test patch which will help us outline which machine setting will help us achieve the best results for your hair. It is important you notify us if you have a tan (real or fake) or have applied any moisturisers including tan in the past 3 weeks as these can affect your ability to have a test patch. Please call us ahead of your appointment if you are unsure.
During our consultations, please bring with you a list of any medication you are currently taking and the dosage as we may need to tailor your treatment plan to make sure it does not interfere with any of your selected treatments.
Your no-obligation consultation is an opportunity to discuss your concerns with the therapist without feeling any pressure to make any immediate decisions. During your consultation it may be difficult to remember everything, so you will take home with you a copy of your consent form for your records as well as pre and post treatment information.
You will also be able to purchase products in preparation for your treatment.
Consultations of Laser Hair Removal are completely free!
However, if you book your patch test via Treatwell you will see that it shows £0.01 – please select “pay at venue” to avoid this charge (don’t worry we won’t charge you), it’s just Treatwell doesn’t allow booking in for free on their system.
Each treatment journey is different as we tailor every client’s treatment plan to them. We pride ourselves on our integrity and always seek to give honest, genuine advice and recommendations that will provide solutions to your skin concern.
As part of your treatment plan, you’ll have full access to our aftercare information, over the phone advice and recommendations specific to your needs. We strive to make real differences to our clients’ lives, whether it’s from enhancing self-confidence to improving your quality of life and establishing the relationship between you and your skin.
You will need to wait at least 48 hours after your consultation before your first treatment. This is because during your consultation we perform a test patch on the desired treatment area which will need time to develop to ensure we are using the correct settings, to give you the best results.
Laser may not be suitable for everyone and there are certain medical conditions that may prevent you from having the treatment. This can include:
- All clients must be over 18 to start their Laser Hair Removal journey. This is stipulated by our insurance company and must be adhered to at all times. You can continue to have waxing treatments done until you are ready (visit wax-away.co.uk).
- Pregnancy – It’s advisable that you wait until after you’ve had your child before considering the procedure to allow your hormones to settle. It is recommended that you wait 3 months post birth (depending on your birthing experience), and if you are still breastfeeding, to wait a further 3 months after you have stopped.
- Breastfeeding – Laser hair removal should generally be avoided while breastfeeding. Your hormones will likely cause changes to hair growth, meaning the procedure might not be as effective as you would have liked. Wait 3 months after you stop breastfeeding to start your laser hair removal journey.
- Medical conditions such as: Psoriasis, Bleeding disorders, Severe reactions to histamines, Previous surgery such as chemical peels and laser resurfacing and Vitiligo.
- Medication – Many medications come with side-effects, including those that will make your skin more photosensitive. This means that your skin might react more negatively to change – such as laser hair removal. If this is the case, you might want to think of ways to get around the issue. For example, taking a break from the problematic medication may be an option or switching to an alternative treatment. Having a discussion with your GP will help determine the right course of action for your needs.
Sun tan – The sun will cause your skin to create more melanin, which is there to protect your skin from damage. However, this can cause your skin colour to become patchy and uneven, which isn’t the best start for laser hair removal.
- Keloid Scarring – This occurs when wounds do not heal properly, and they can be especially hazardous to anyone seeking laser hair removal. The skin is usually raised, which can make it vulnerable during the procedure.
- Tattoos – Areas of the skin where there is a tattoo should be avoided during laser hair removal. This is to minimise skin irritation, as well as any potential aesthetic changes to your tattoos.
- Lesions/Open wounds – Laser hair removal can be especially painful in areas of the body where there are lesions or open wounds. It’s therefore a good idea to postpone the procedure until they’ve fully healed.
- Recent waxing/Plucking – Any laser hair removal treatment requires there to be a follicle to target. If you’ve recently plucked or waxed your body, there won’t be any. It’s usually recommended that you wait two weeks before attempting laser hair removal. Alternatives like shaving or depilatory creams are great to bridge that gap between hair and laser results!
- Epilepsy – Light induced epilepsy sufferers are usually advised against laser hair removal, unless they have a note authorising the procedure from their GP. If you do decide to go ahead, you should be provided with eye protection that blocks out the light to minimise the likelihood of a seizure.
- Hirsutism – This is a genetic condition that sees women experiencing excessive hair growth. The hairs are generally thick and dark, making them easy to see.
- Blonde/Red/Grey/White Hair – Laser Hair Removal will not be effective on light hairs as these hairs have no pigment for the laser to absorb into. We will only recommend LHR if we think your hair will be dark enough to respond to the treatment. Lighter brown hair can have LHR but it may take longer to achieve your desired results. As always, no guarantees can be made on results.
Laser hair removal can be an effective way of getting rid of these unwanted hairs. It is worth bearing in mind that the procedure can take longer for hirsutism sufferers – potentially several months – and it is generally most effective on women with pale skin and dark hair.
Apart from having the opportunity to purchase pre and post care products the only extra charges you may incur is if we need to shave any areas for you at your appointment. We cannot stress enough that all clients will need to shave before each and every appointment. A few stray hairs are fine and will be shaved by the therapist but any larger sections of hair will be chargeable at a rate of £10+ depending on the area. Appointments are booked on the basis that you will come fully prepared. If an area is hard to reach for you and you would like to pay to have it shaved at your appointment please notify your therapist well in advance so we can ensure adequate time is set aside for your appointment.
